Surf Life Saving Queensland named charity partner of Magic Millions 2021
SLSQ services took centre stage with the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service delivering the prestigious 2YO Classic Magic Millions trophy to lifesavers waiting in the ocean in an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB). Crewman George Levett was winched down as he hand-delivered the trophy to lifesavers, who then sped the boat into shore to NRL legend Billy Slater.
SLSQ CEO Dave Whimpey said the organisation was proud to partner with the iconic Gold Coast event.
“The Magic Millions is an iconic event on the Gold Coast calendar each year, with the barrier draw always taking place at a beachside location,” he said.
“It was spectacular to have our great organisation involved in today’s event and showcase what we can do in both the air and water.
“That is why we are calling on people who attend the Magic Millions Raceday this Saturday or are watching from home, to dig deep and donate to our organisation, as we strive to continue to keep people safe on our beaches while they swim between the red and yellow flags.
“We hope punters take part in our 50-50 raffle, with money raised going towards vital lifesaving equipment and services, which will ensure visitors’ safety on our beaches.”
The 50-50 charity raffle is now available online and SLSQ volunteers will be selling raffle tickets in person at Saturday’s raceday.
