North Burleigh win 2021 QLD Youth State Champs

North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club have claimed victory at the 2021 Queensland Youth State Championships in a dominant fashion.

Having led the event since Day 1, North Burleigh stormed home with a total of 410 points – 166 points ahead of their nearest rival, Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park.

Alexandra Headland (219), Maroochydore (197) and Northcliffe (164) rounded out the top five.

SLSQ Sports Manager Stuart Hogben said the three-day event had showcased and celebrated the athleticism and sportsmanship of more than 1,600 nippers.

“It has been a fantastic three days of racing at North Kirra, with the Under 11’s to Under 15’s showcasing their skills,” he said.

“The future of our sport is in good hands with some outstanding competitors claiming victories.

“There was plenty of incredible moments on the beach and in the water, the glory days certainly are back.”

Amongst the highlights of the final day was Metropolitan Caloundra winning the All Age Beach Relay ahead of Tweed Heads Coolangatta (2nd) and North Burleigh (3rd).

Northcliffe’s Ryley Harland claimed victory in the U15 Matthew Barclay Memorial Ironman.

Kobi Holden (Elliot Heads) proved his dominance in the Under 14 Males claiming gold in the Ironman and Board Race.

Alexandra Headlands’ Bryon Oliphant had a fantastic weekend claiming gold in the Under 13 Male Board Race, Surf Race and Ironman.

North Burleigh’s Jasmine Rayward showcased her skills in the water winning the Under 15 Ironwoman, as well as placing second in the Surf Race and fourth in the Board Race.

The Queensland Senior and Masters State Championships will be held in two weeks (Friday 26 – Sunday 28 March) at Tugun.
