North Barrier's Top Lifesavers Announced

Sunday, 11 July 2021

Lifesavers from Forrest Beach to Sarina have been recognised at the annual Surf Life Saving North Barrier Branch Awards.

Angela Blair from Mackay SLSC was awarded the BHP Billiton Trophy for Surf Lifesaver of the Year for her dedication to the movement.

As Club Captain Amanda played an integral role in ensuring club operations run smoothly throughout the 2020/2021 season, including organising volunteers for weekly beach patrols.

SLSQ Regional Operations Manager North Barrier Jennifer Rees said the awards highlighted the dedication of volunteers from across the region.

“The nominations received for each award highlight the dedication of all lifesavers in the region who give up their time to keep our beaches safe,” she said.

“I would like to congratulate all award winners and thank them for their contribution to lifesaving throughout the region.”

Ms Rees said the future of lifesaving was in good hands with Ned Smith being awarded the Townsville Bulletin Trophy for Under 14 Junior Surf Lifesaver of the Year.

“Ned is an enthusiastic and committed young member of Arcadian SLSC,” she said.

“It is great to see Ned as well as numerous other young members recognised for their passion and dedication towards surf lifesaving.”

Ayr Surf Life Saving Club was named North Barrier’s Surf Club of the Year, recognised for their tremendous commitment to keeping local beachgoers safe.

Award winners will now go on to represent the region at the Surf Life Saving Queensland Awards of Excellence held in Brisbane on September 25.
