Awards of Excellence: Community Education Program

Monday, 24 August 2020

Congratulations to Noosa Heads Surf Life Saving Club who have been awarded the 2020 Community Education Program of the Year.

This award recognises a surf lifesaving activity or program which has significantly contributed to our mission of saving lives and building better communities.

Noosa Heads SLSC’s Community Education program has three streams, each custom designed to meet the needs of the community.

Their Surf Education Program provides local school students the opportunity to gain confidence in the water through various aquatic activities. This year more than 3,000 students learnt how to be safe whilst at the beach through this program.

Through the introduction of a transition program for students the club gained 30 new patrolling members. The program provides school students free membership after they complete their Cert II in Public Safety or Surf Rescue Certificate through the club’s Commercial Education Program.

Noosa Heads SLSC ensures that there is an opportunity for all community members through their Seahorse Nipper program.

The inclusive program provided 45 children with physical and mental challenges the opportunity to gain confidence at the beach and in the surf.

We wish Noosa Heads SLSC all the best as they go on to represent Queensland at the Surf Life Saving Australia awards.

We would also like to recognise Nobbys Beach Surf Life Saving Club’s Albatross Nipper program which was a finalist for this year’s award.

After winning the National and State Community Education Program of the Year in 2019, they have continued to expand the program with multiple clubs becoming involved.
