A special Father's Day for Kirra's IRB Team
On Sunday four fathers at Kirra Surf Life Saving Club on the Gold Coast will compete alongside their children at IRB State Championships at Broadbeach.
Kirra, SLSQ’s 2020 Marsh Club of the Year, are a proud family-oriented club, who have developed into an IRB powerhouse in recent years.
“We’ve grown from 10 years ago when we had six people and we made a final at the Ocean Roar series, to now celebrating winning gold medals at Australian titles,” Anthony Cassone, Team Manager said.
“It’s pretty cool when you see someone else’s child making finals or winning medals.
“A couple of us Dad’s will go ‘how good’s that’, it’s a pretty special Dad moment.”
Cassone, whose daughter Shayna was named in SLSQ’s Sports Team of the Year, said it is special to share a passion with his daughter.
“We are involved in a sport that’s a lifestyle,” he said.
“It is pretty special to have that connection.”
Day 2 of the Championships, which falls on Father’s Day, will be a memorable day for all involved.
“We get to spend all day together on the beach and then all families will go out together for dinner that night,” he said.
All are welcome to watch the IRB State Champions this Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September, 9am at Broadbeach.
The event will also be live streamed on the SLSQ Facebook page.
SLSQ wishes all Dads a very Happy Father’s Day.
