Your opportunity to take charge of the beach and lead a team of surf lifesavers on patrol.

Trained in beach management, Patrol Captains will lead a team of volunteer lifesavers with varying skills and experiences. This role requires highly motivated and responsible Patrol Captains to make real time commands and control decisions in an emergency situation. You need to be a people manager who ensures that rescue and beach operations are successfully completed in the most efficient and safe manner.

Patrol Captains will encourage and mentor inexperienced lifesavers through the various roles on patrol and into further training and education to ensure that all team members are appropriately equipped and up skilled should an emergency situation arise.


Requirements

Applicants must be a minimum of 17 years old on day of course commencement.

There is no maximum age, however the following requirements for Patrol Captain are in place:

  • must have previously completed a Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) / Bronze Medallion during their surf life saving career, though current proficiency in this award is not required.
  • must be proficient in one of the following:

        – Radio Operator

        – Advanced Resuscitation Techniques [AID]

        – First Aid [AID]

        – Spinal Management

  • Candidates must also be the holder of a current Blue Card.
