What is a Direct Supervisor

A Direct Supervisor is the person responsible for the ‘Direct Supervision’ of the training and assessment of a course, who is required to hold a full Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.  They are not involved in the actual course itself; however it is their responsibility to ensure the course is trained and assessed to the standards set by the relevant course Delivery and Assessment guide, and any other SLSQ or Registered Training Organisation policies and procedures.

A Direct Supervisor must always be nominated when a course is being conducted.  However, if a trainer or facilitator of a course holds a full Certificate IV, they are also able to fulfil the role of Direct Supervisor.

All Direct Supervisors must meet the following criteria:

 - Hold:

  •  Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training (BSZ40198) OR
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104) OR
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110)

 - And demonstrate current industry skills directly relevant to training/assessing

 - And demonstrate current competency and continual development in training and assessment, as well as VET knowledge and skills

Note:  A Direct Supervisor is not required to hold the Vocational competency nor the SLSQ award being trained.
