Community Awareness Programs

Our Community Awareness Team is out there educating members of the community about the importance of surf, beach and aquatic safety all year round.

Whilst SLSQ's community awareness initiatives are aimed to educate all members of the comunity, various programs have been developed to target high-risk groups that include:

  • 18-25 year old males
  • Rural population
  • International tourists
  • Domestic tourists, and
  • Non-English speaking populations.

We are continually developing innovative programs and resources to deliver our vital surf safety messages to these groups.  We actively partner with key community organisations to deliver our vital surf and beach safety messages to our local and regional communities, as well as domestic and international visitors.

Our Community Awareness initiatives include partnering with organisations such as:

  • Queensland Government Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries
  • Telstra
  • South Bank Corporation
  • Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC)
  • Tourism Queensland
  • Queensland Health
  • Queensland Government Department of Multicultural Affairs
  • Cairns Regional Council
  • Whitsunday Regional Council, and
  • Redland City Council.

Beach Safety Presentations and Programs

Learning the art of saving lives

Surf Life Saving Queensland programs and resources are all about combining education and fun to get the surf safety message across. Our courses and programs range from introductory sessions through to nationally recognised lifesaving awards.

Surf Life Saving Queensland's educational programs include school and community lectures, beach and water activities, resuscitation training and certification, first aid training, surf survival programs and surf sports skill development. Our programs can range from activities in the classroom, to activities at the beach and in the surf. All programs can be modified to suit the needs of clients and individuals.

SLSQ cater for all ages and backgrounds, from kindergarten aged children through to organisations wanting to train their staff members in new skills. If you'd like to hold a program for your school or organisation, please download the programs overview and the program booking request form below.

Community Awareness Program Presenters

Our Community Awareness Program presenters visit schools all over Queensland, as well as conduct practical sessions on the beaches from Port Douglas to Rainbow Bay. They also attend local festivals and major events, such as the Brisbane Ekka, to recruit new members and promote the importance of surf and beach safety.

Our audiences are varied and we are now delivering our programs to multicultural group and communities from overseas. For any current, proficient club members who may be interested in some casual work through Surf Life Saving Queensland's community awareness programs, we would like to hear from you.

Contact Stacey Tomson, the Community Awareness Programs Coordinator on 07 3846 8025 or email stomson@lifesaving.com.au for more information.
